I am a crier. I cry at things that make me emotional. Comics make me emotional. Sometimes I cry at comics. So, below are some comics that have literally made me cry and why.
The Amazing Spider-Man:
In its entire run, I have cried a few times over events. The obvious one is “The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man”. Some of the PSAs have done it too, not to mention there are so many stories and Elseworlds that some would be tragic. Also, angry tears.
Invincible:
Invincible made me cry twice. The main tears came from such a well-earned and truly great ending to the greatest superhero comic book in the universe. Give it a read or catch up on the animated series on Amazon Prime.
Superior:
Mark Millar makes comics that work better as movies than they do as comics. Kick-Ass, Wanted, and Kingsman: The Secret Service are all better movies than they are comics.
Superior is a love letter to Christopher Reeves's Superman and shows what is so amazing about hope and Superman.
Y: The Last Man:
I wanted to name my son after Yorick, the lead character and last man, because of this series. We went with another comic book character instead but the point still stands. Yorick and his journey is one I will never forget.
The Sculptor:
Scott McCloud is best known for Understanding Comics and Making Comics, but when it comes to making comics, he does a phenomenal job. This is a once-in-a-lifetime read that deserves an in-depth spoiler talk. One day.
Have you ever read a graphic novel that made you cry? I know I have more than I will admit here.
Until Next Time…
